The Only MINT McGraw "Portrait-No Cap" Known In the Hobby!
1909-11 T206 Piedmont 150 John McGraw (Portrait-No Cap) PSA Mint 9 - Pop One, None Higher! The first century of our national pastime would not be the same without John "Little Napoleon" McGraw. Truxton, New York's native son began his playing career as an 18-year old in the spring of 1891 with the Baltimore Orioles. At the time, Ned Hanlon was manager of the talented squad where McGraw and teammates Wee Willie Keeler, Hughie Jennings, Joe Kelley and Wilbert Robinson saw success that earned them three straight NL pennants (1894-1896) and a Temple Cup World Championship in 1896.As the skipper of the New York Giants from 1902 to 1932, McGraw fostered the talents of greats like Christy Mathewson, Roger Bresnahan, Joe McGinnity, Red Ames, Dummy Taylor, Dave Bancroft, Frank Frisch and many others. Only failing health forced him to resign on June 3, 1932. From 1904 through 1924, the Giants won seven pennants and three World Championships. His final game marked the end of his Hall of Fame career with 2,763 managerial victories, second only to Connie Mack.
He appears on no less than four T206 cards. All four of his cards in this auction are among the best examples known to the hobby. Offered is his "Portrait-No cap" card.
Grade PSA Mint 9. And rightfully so. The highest quality corners, clean, blemish-free surfaces, crisp edges and four corners that all come to 90-degree angles describe this condition rarity. Height and width are a perfect 1-7/16"x 1-5/8" factory standard. His portrait is stunning with deep, bold, vibrant colors and registration. This is not just a "Pop One with None Higher" title-holder for the Piedmont brand. This is the only card graded MINT by PSA regardless of the brand!
