The complexities, nuances, beauty, and sheer magnitude of the American Tobacco Company's revolutionary 1909-11 T206 baseball card series have captivated collectors for over a century. It is the seminal issue of the era and a cornerstone of the card-collecting hobby. Assembling the enormous 520-plus card set piecemeal is a task of monumental proportions, requiring considerable resources of time, patience, and money. Those resources can be compounded exponentially relative to the curator's standards for condition and eye appeal. With all of the challenges facing purveyors of these beloved 100-plus years-old tobacco cards, it's no wonder that collectors have affectionately dubbed the T206 series "The Monster." Offered here is the culmination of one collector's dedicated pursuit, not just to tame The Monster but to honor it.

Our consignor's journey began in 2015 when he purchased a graded T206 near complete set with cards ranging from VG-EX to EX-MT. He quickly recognized centering and overall eye appeal variance within a given grade. His immediate attraction to the most well-centered and vibrantly printed cards led him to liquidate all but the most eye-poppingly beautiful cards in the set. While attending a card show in Chicago later that same year, he met a dealer with a large inventory of mid to high-grade T260s. He scrutinized the inventory and culled every card that met his newly set standards for centering and presentation quality. Over the last eight years since that day in Chicago, our consignor has been on a relentless quest. Knowing that building the finest T206 set based on technical grade was impossible, he committed himself to build the best "eye-appeal" T206 set ever assembled.
