1909-11 T206 Old Mill Walter Johnson (Hands at Chest) PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop Two, None Higher. Marvelous portrait image captures the calm before the storm unleashed by the Big Train's rocket right arm, one that Ty Cobb called, "the most powerful arm ever turned loose in a ball park." Johnson is honored twice in the tobacco era's most celebrated issue, this is his "Hands at Chest" pose. In addition to being a condition rarity, this card displays a scarcer "Old Mill Cigarettes" brand reverse.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. No other example of this variation has surpassed the offered specimen on the PSA population charts. The offered card is one of just two that have earned NM-MT assessments. We believe that the NM-MT 8 ruling comes as a result of a very slight top-layer chip in the upper left corner. Centering is close to precise. These "faults" can be readily dismissed when remembering the antiquated production procedures of Dead Ball Era trading card manufacturing. The portrait of the "Big Train" displays deep, rich hues and we see no surface blemishes. In short, this card is close to being indistinguishable in condition from the date of its production. A gorgeous example of one of the key cards (with a scarcer brand back) from a "Big Three" issue.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
