Description

1909-11 T206 Drum Walter Johnson (Hands At Chest) PSA VG-EX 4 - Only Two PSA-Graded Examples! Marvelous portrait image captures the calm before the storm unleashed by the Big Train's rocket right arm, one that Ty Cobb called, "the most powerful arm ever turned loose in a ball park." Johnson is honored twice in the tobacco era's most celebrated issue, this is his "Hands at Chest" pose. In addition to being a condition rarity, this card displays an improbable - putting it mildly - ad for "Drum Cigarettes - 350 Subjects" on the reverse. With that, it is elevated from card that no one would turn down the opportunity to add to their collection to one that earns "Admiral" status in a vast ocean of T206 Seaman Recruits.

Graded PSA VG-EX 4. There is just one other example - a lone Fair 1.5 - of this player/brand combination noted on the PSA population chart! The central "Hands at Chest" portrait of the "Big Train" displays deep, rich hues and is centered to the left. Borders are clean, white and join together at corners that display totally acceptable corner wear. All of this is easily forgiven if not forgotten about once one sees that alluring "Drum" advertising. We see no crease or wrinkle. A solid example of one of the key T206 entries with an extremely difficult tobacco brand.
