1902-11 W600 Sporting Life Type 1-1902 Jack Chesbro (Street Clothes) PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 - The Only PSA Example!
Only the most intrepid collector will target the rookie card of every member of Baseball's Hall of Fame. These rookie card enthusiasts can spend years looking for that first appearance, as some are represented by less than a handful, if not just one or two known examples. Some will fill in their collections with a close substitute while the most passionate will be satisfied only by the very first card on which a player made his debut. This is one of those "must have" cards.

Usually, for Hall of Famer Jack Chesbro, his W600 Sporting Life cabinet makes for a welcome addition considering his 1903 E107 Breisch Williams card is so scarce and rarely offered for sale. Chesbro appears in the W600 Sporting Life series as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Highlanders, both depicting him in a formal "Street Clothes" portrait. Chesbro pitched from 1899 to 1902 for Pittsburgh. The earliest his New York card could appear would be 1903. This is unmistakably a "Type 1" W600 with the dated caption ending, "...Club of 1902" confirming this is the earliest card known featuring the 1904 41-game winner.

Graded PSA VG-EX+ 4.5. There are just two total entries for Chesbro on the PSA census. This is the only entry confirmed as a Type 1 card with Pittsburgh. There is just one other "Pittsburgh" on the census that may or may not be a Type 1. With only very modest corner wear we find the PSA assessment a little conservative. Eye appeal is exceptional with a crisply printed portrait and not pencil or ink notations so commonly found on cards from this series.
