    Description

1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Cap Anson SGC 60 EX 5. The Mayo Cut Plug series appeared when there were few other baseball related sets being produced. Even with competition, N300 would have remained the premier baseball card promotion of the 1890's. The deep and saturated black borders, dual-tone and finely detailed portraits combine for a luxurious presentation making N300s one of the most sought after cards of the 19th Century with a sports theme. Among the roster of subjects are some of the greatest talents of the era but certainly none are more sought after than Chicago 1st Baseman Adrian "Cap" Anson. Not just one of baseball's first superstars, Anson would become the founding member of the 3,000 Hits club, a selective fraternity which set the standard for future excellence. The offered example shows minor condition issues but none affect the central portrait of baseball's both famous and infamous superstar. Graded SGC 60 EX 5. This is the only card graded EX with five rated higher. A superior EX example.
