Description
1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Charles Comiskey GAI NM-MT 8. Charles Comiskey was a decent player who became one of the most influential owners in Major League history. He began with the St. Louis Browns of the American Association in 1882. A first baseman, he is credited as being first to play away from the bag to increase range. He became a full-time player/manager of St. Louis in 1885 and won four pennants in five years, with one World Championship Series win. "The Old Roman" helped form the American League. He became notorious as the owner of The Chicago White, who in 1919 threw the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. Comiskey's miserly pay scale was cited by some as a major factor in an alleged eight White Sox selling out. Comiskey was selected to the Hall of Fame as a Pioneer/Executive in 1939.
