Description

1887 N28 Allen & Ginter Charles Comiskey PSA NM-MT 8 - None Higher. Today his name is inextricably linked to the Chicago White Sox, primarily due to the eponymous ballpark that served as the team's home for eight decades, but also for his complicated anti-hero role in the Black Sox scandal of 1919. Here we find the future Hall of Famer more than three decades before the betrayal of the Eight Men Out, wearing the uniform of the American Association Champion St. Louis Browns in his role as player/manager.

Comiskey is one of six Cooperstown immortals, and one of ten baseball players, featured within the gorgeously lithographed issue celebrating "World Champions" of an array of athletic endeavors from boxing to billiards to shooting. It would be difficult to overstate the significance of this issue within the history of baseball cards, a clear evolutionary step on the path to the T206, and onward to the bubble gum era that would follow.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. Fourteen decades after the issue's initial release, the overall availability is predictably limited, particularly at the upper end of the quality spectrum. With just four Comiskey representations at NM-MT 8 level, and none superior, this card is second only to minor star Charles W. Bennett among baseball players within the set for those collectors content only with top-tier examples.
