Description
1887 N172 Old Judge Harry Wright (Phila. NL) Portrait/Looking Right PSA EX-MT 6.William Henry "Harry" Wright involvement in baseball from the very first era makes him a pioneer in the truest sense. The value of his contributions as player, manager and architect of the game are incalculable. It was his style of play which set the groundwork for the rules of modern day baseball. Along with his brother, Harry played professional ball at the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP) where his relationship to the national game was forged. It was a bond that would never be broken. Wright was the cornerstone of the first professional baseball team - the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. His passion for the game went beyond his own play as Wright was the first to formulate strategies of play which are taken for granted today. Wright's took on the role of player, manger and general manger during his career. As a manager, he took his team to six league championships and posted a .581 winning percentage. Both Harry and his brother George are members of both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. He appears on very few cards, his three portraits in the N172 Old Judge of coveted additions to any collection.
Graded PSA EX-MT 6. One of two examples to occupy the EX-MT level on the PSA pop report with two grading higher. To date, only a dozen total examples (with qualified reviews) have been graded by PSA. Overall, there are just minor physical evidence exposing its true age. The formal portrait of Wright has faded but is free of surface imperfections. The caption reads, "WRIGHT, Mgr., Phila. (N L)". A key entry for HoF collectors, 19th Century enthusiasts and N172 Old Judge specialists.
