    Description

1887-90 N172 Old Judge Jim O'Rourke (#358-2) SGC 20 Fair 1.5. There are three fascinating things about Jim O'Rourke. "Orator" Jim is credited with getting the very first hit of the newly organized National League in April of 1876. The second is that he graduated from Yale Law School and managed to get the New York Giants to pay for his tuition! In 1904, at the ripe old age of 53, O'Rourke went 1-for-4 becoming the oldest man to hit safely in a major league game. Offered is pose #358-2 Bat in R/hand at side. Captions reads: JIM O'ROURKE, C., New Yorks. Graded SGC 20 Fair 1.5. Team: New York (NL) Note: "(PL)" is noted in hand. Copyright 1888. Photo quality: Excellent.
