Description

1887-90 N172 Old Judge Hank O'Day (#355-1) SGC Fair 1.5. Hank O'Day was a serviceable pitcher during the 1880s, hardly a superstar, but he stuck around the Big Leagues for seven seasons. After his arm gave out, he became an umpire and made his mark as one of the finest of his time. He was the home plate umpire for Fred Merkle's famous "bonehead" play that allowed the Cubs to snag the NL flag away from the Giants in 1908. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 for his service as an on-field arbiter. Offered is an Old Judge card of O'Day that has been graded SGC Fair 1.5. A great looking example from the front with outstanding image quality, the card has received its grade due to some surface loss on verso. This would make a find addition to a Hall of Fame collection.
