    Description

1882 Sarony New York Metropolitans Team Cabinet Photo. Exceedingly rare early image pictures the team from the upstart American Association that would form the basis for the New York Giants of the National League, officially debuting the next year with the addition of a host of future Hall of Famers including Buck Ewing, Roger Connor and Mickey Welch. We thank the Library of Congress for the following identifications of the players pictured in this marvelous team shot of the "Metropolitan Baseball Nine 1882" at Sarony's studio near Manhattan's Union Square. Identified: Top row, left to right: Jack Lynch, Charlie Reipschlager, Tip O'Neill, Eddie Kennedy, John Clapp, John Doyle, Frank Hankinson, Steve Brady. Bottom row, left to right: Tom Mansell, Terry Larkin, Candy Nelson, Long John Reilly. The piece survives in remarkably fine condition, with light soiling at the borders the only issue that catches the eye. Dimensions are 4.25x6.25".
