2020 Topps Chrome Rookie Autographs Luis Robert (Red Refractor) #RA-LR BGS Gem Mint 9.5, Auto 10 - #'d 5/5. Presented is the chance to have a 2020 Topps Chrome Red Refractor of a budding superstar, Luis Robert. "He's a special talent," said Chicago White Sox bench coach Joe McEwing. "You can come to the ballpark and understand he has the chance to do something special every day in every aspect of his game, whether it's running, playing defense, throwing or hitting." Robert was a center field prodigy in his native Cuba. He played for Cuba in the 2015 18U World Cup, and made the All-Tournament Team. Then in 2016, Luis played for the Cuban National team as a "guest" team in the Canadien-American Association, an independent league. In 2016-17, he batted .401 for Ciego de Avila in the Cuban National League. As a legitimate five-tool star, Robert signed contract with the Chicago White Sox in 2017, one that included a $26 million signing bonus. He started playing in the minors, and on three levels, including Triple-A, Robert was a rare 30/30 player, knocking a combined 32 homers and stealing 36 bases. Robert broke into the Majors in 2020 and hit .233 with 11 homers and nine steals in the shortened season. Then in 2021, after 23 games he had a slash line of .316/.359/.463 when he suffered a complete tear of his right hip flexor – an injury that will require an estimated three to months of rehabilitation before baseball activities can resume. He could return to play late in the season.

The 2020 Topps Baseball Refractors are mostly without borders. Some of the colors are subtle, so the best spot to find the designated color of the refractor is the stripe running up the side that holds the nameplate. With the 2020 Topps Chrome set, the odds of getting Red Refractors are at best 1:2,126 Hobby Jumbo to 1:6,907 in Blasters. Graded BGS Gem Mint 9.5 with subgrades: Centering 9.5, Corners 9.5, Edges 9.5, Surface 9 with a Beckett 10 Auto. Limited edition - #5/5. One of two currently graded Gem Mint with none rated higher.

Guide Value or Estimate: $12,000 - up.

Signature Internet Extended Bid: These Auctions are presented via catalog and online. Bidding is taken through our website or via phone. There are two phases of bidding during this type of auction: 1) Normal bidding: Bids are taken up until 10 PM CT the night the auction closes. 2) 30 Minute Ending: On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding). If you are the only bidder at 10 PM, you will automatically win the lot at 10:30. Important: After normal bidding ends, you must be signed-on to the Heritage site to see the bidding option on lots where you qualify for extended bidding.
