Description

Population five!

1979 Topps Ozzie Smith Rookie #116 PSA Gem Mint 10. High-grade rookie card collectors will surely flip for this spectacular specimen celebrating the arrival of the greatest defensive shortstop in the history of the sport. His unbroken thirteen-season reign as the National League's Gold Glover at the position serves as his greatest claim to fame, though Smith was no slouch with the lumber either, recording nearly 2,500 hits during his nineteen seasons in the Bigs, even taking home a Silver Slugger in 1987.

Braves third baseman Bob Horner would narrowly edge out Smith for National League Rookie of the Year honors in 1978, but Ozzie reigns supreme in the 1979 Topps issue, and this representation is quite literally as it good as it gets. Only four other examples in over 9,000 submissions to PSA's graders have measured up to the elite standards of this spectacular showpiece.
