Description

1979 Topps Ozzie Smith #116 PSA Gem Mint 10 - Pop Four. Twenty-two year old Ozzie Smith became a member of the Walla Walla (WA) Padres of the Northwest League in 1977. Just one year later, on April 7, 1978, Smith would make his debut as shortstop for the Major League San Diego Padres club and the rest, as they say, is history. Like death and taxes, the prospect of Ozzie Smith winning a Gold Glove annually seemed inevitable. During his nineteen year Hall of Fame career, Smith was presented with a Gold Glove Award fifteen times. "The Wizard of Oz" is as famous for his back flips as he is for his major league records for career assists (8,375), 2,511 games at short (NL record), winning the NL Gold Glove Award 13 consecutive seasons and making 15 All-Star Game appearances.

Offered is one of the finest example of his 1979 Topps rookie card on record. Graded PSA Gem MT 10. Every bell and whistle are here - four sharp corners, flawless surfaces and perfect centering. With total PSA submissions well over 4,800 and counting, this is one of only four cards to carry a Gem Mint rating - or just .0008% of that population. If you are a Ozzie Smith or '79 Topps specialist, this is a very rare chance to add one of the finest examples on record.
