Description

1975 Topps Fred Lynn - Rookie Outfielders #622 PSA Mint 9. When center fielder Fred Lynn started the 1975 season for the Boston Red Sox, no one could have envisioned the impact he would have on the team, the City of Boston and all of Major League Baseball. As it turned out, the 23-year-old rookie out of USC recorded one of the best offensive seasons in history. He batted .331 with 21 home runs and a league-leading 47 doubles, and posted a league-best .566 slugging percentage and .967 OPS. He also won his first of four Gold Glove awards and was named both AL Rookie of the Year and league MVP, which made him the first player in history to win both awards in the same year.

Offered is a 1975 Topps "Rookie Outfielders" card that shines the spotlight on Lynn and three other up-and-coming players: Cincinnati's Ed Armbrister, Kansas City's Tom Poquette, and Terry Whitfield of the New York Yankees. The top draw on this card is Lynn. Winning the ROY and MVP awards simultaneously put him on the baseball map, and helping Boston win the AL pennant and nearly the World Series title certainly made it a season to remember. This example of card #622 from the popular '75 Topps series is in outstanding condition with vivid colors, great centering, unchipped full-bleed borders, four sharp corners, and a very clean reverse. Graded PSA Mint 9. Of the more than 2,400 examples examined by PSA, this is one 196 cards graded MINT with 20 rated higher.
