Description

1973 Topps Mike Schmidt - Rookie 3rd Basemen #615 PSA Gem Mint 10. He had one of the strangest batting stances in Big League baseball, rotated so sharply at the hips that the opposing pitcher could read the number "20" on the back of his jersey as he delivered. And 548 times--a standing record for third basemen--the next view that pitcher got was the ball sailing over the outfield wall.

Schmidt finished his 1973 rookie season with eighteen home runs but 136 strikeouts, however those talent scouts who watched him play clearly saw something that his rather middling stat line did not, as he'd go on to lead the National League in homers seven times, including each year from 1974-76. Suddenly, this was the rookie card every kid wanted.

But somehow the offered representation was spared the indignity of the grubby hands of youth, safely sequestered from all danger for over half a century to survive as one of just five to earn the top assessment of PSA graders. As that unbeatable rating would suggest, there is not a molecule out of place in this glossy, gorgeous commemorative, the image perfectly registered and balanced between perfectly balanced borders and razor-sharp corners. Graded PSA Gem Mint 10.
