1965 Topps Jim Hunter Rookie #526 PSA Gem Mint 10 - One of Two Gem MT 10s! The 1965 Athletics, in their last year before moving west to Oakland, managed to lose over 100 games that season but did have a rare shining star in 19-year old rookie (and future Hall of Famer) Jim "Catfish" Hunter. The inspiration of the Bob Dylan song "Catfish" was a fourteen year veteran who pitched for the Athletics in two different cities and the powerhouse New York Yankees. An early boomer, Hunter is on a short list of pitchers who won 200 games before turning 31. To his credit, he pitched a perfect game in 1968, appeared in eight All-Star games, five World Championship teams and won the Cy Young Award in 1974. One of the first big-money free-agents it was the "Catfish" who reined as the highest-paid player in baseball when the New York Yankees signed him to a five-year contract for a then eye-brow raising sum of $3.35 million dollars. Eight years after retiring in 1979, Hunter became a member of Baseball's Hall of Fame. Not long after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, Hunter passed away in 1999.

Graded PSA Gem MT 10. From a total population of over 1,600 submissions, this is one of only two cards to rightfully carry the Gem MT label. Even shiner than this young prospect was in 1965, is the perfect layer of gloss on this attention grabbing condition rarity. Corners come to the sharpest of point even with any magnification. Surfaces are without blemish or printing mishap. Scrutinize the condition factor of your choice, every aspect of this card is a testament to quality and the answer will be the same - simply flawless.
