1965 Topps Jim Hunter - 1965 Athletics Rookie Stars #526 PSA Gem Mint 10 - Pop Seven. Presented is the extremely rare Gem Mint rookie card of Jim "Catfish" Hunter, Hall of Fame hurler for the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees - and part of a dispute that effectively freed Major League players from adherence to the reserve clause. Also, on the card are: Rene Lachemann, a big-league catcher who later managed; Johnny "Blue Moon" Odom, a starting pitcher with the Athletics; and Skip Lockwood, a reliefer with the New York Mets. Interest in the card centers on Hunter, who started his big-league career with the Kansas City A's as a 19-year-old. In 1968, the Athletics moved to Oakland, and Hunter pitched a perfect game on May 8th against the Minnesota Twins, the ninth regular season perfect game in Major League history. Hunter went 21-11 in 1971, the first of five straight years in which he won at least 20 games, both the fourth AL hurler - and the last pitcher - to ever do it.

In 1974, Hunter won the Cy Young Award and was in a legal wrangle with Charlie Finley when the Athletics owner failed to make a payment on Hunter's life insurance, as required by Hunter's contact. Courts ruled that the contract was voided, and Hunter became a free agent, basically ending the power of baseball's reserve clause. Hunter signed with the Yankees and had a 23-14 season in '75, but then diabetes and injuries started to affect his performances. He retired in 1979 and passed away from ALS in 1999. A key condition rarity card, both for Hunter's pitching and the legal dispute that changed baseball by leading to free agency. Graded PSA Gem Mint 10. One of only seven graded Gem Mint with no possibility of another grading higher.
