1963 Topps Pete Rose - 1963 Rookie Stars #537 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher. Opportunity knocks for a rare Topps Mint 9 Pete Rose rookie card for the all-time hit leader in Major League history. It is, along with Nolan Ryan's rookie card, one of the two most sought-after rookie cards of the 1960s. Rose shares his only acknowledged rookie card with three other players: Pedro Gonzalez of the New York Yankees, Ken McMullen of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Al Weis of the Chicago White Sox. All were infielders who had big league careers, but Rose, as usual, gets all the attention. And deservedly so. Rose was obsessed with hitting, and it was said that he could figure out his new batting average as he was running to first base on a hit. At least Rose always hustled, even when he drew a walk, earning him the nickname of Charlie Hustle. He played in the Major Leagues from 1963 to 1986, 18 plus seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (three as a player/manager), the rest with the Expos and the Phillies. Rose was an All-Star seventeen times, at five positions, an all-time record. Part of the Cincinnati Big Red Machine of the 1970s, he hit at least .300 fourteen times, and won three batting titles and three World Series rings.

Rose commanded national attention in 1978, when he passed Tommy Holmes to set a new National League consecutive game hitting record of 44 - a record second only to Joe DiMaggio's 56-game streak in Major League history. Rose is currently banned from baseball and from induction to the Hall of Fame because of his alleged gambling on baseball, but his fame as the all-time Hit King lives on. Rose passed Ty Cobb to become the Major Leaguer with the most hits on September 11, 1985, and then Rose kept playing and hitting, reaching an outrageous 4,256 hits before he retired. The all-time Hit King rookie card enhances any collection and this is one of the finest examples in the hobby. Graded PSA Mint 9. After more than 5,000 submissions, this card rates higher than just over 99% with only one superior.
