1961 Topps Carl Yastrzemski Star Rookie #287 PSA Gem Mint
10. Just as Mickey Mantle fortuitously arrived on the scene
when the Yankee Clipper was about to sail off into the sunset, so
did this outfielder with the challenging last name come just in
time to fill a void left by the departure of the legendary Ted
Williams. For the next two decades and change, Yaz would serve as
the premier baseball hero of New England sports fans, establishing
this trading card as the most coveted among the collector
class.However, as you can see, this is no ordinary Yastrzemski rookie card, but rather an astoundingly spectacular condition-rarity. Over 5,000 examples of this 1961 Topps card appear in the population of the PSA grading service, and this is one of just four to achieve its highest possible assessment. In order to provide some useful perspective, we'll remind you that three examples of the legendary 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card have soared to this double-digit designation out of slightly more than 2,000 submissions, so this Yaz is mathematically even rarer relative to the full population. Arguably the most important post-war Red Sox card that exists. Graded PSA Gem Mint 10.
