Description
Period-Signed 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax #123 PSA EX-MT 6, PSA/DNA Auto 10 - From The Golden Age Collection. Hall of Fame southpaw Sandy Koufax was a remarkable pitcher who turned in a remarkable career. While his start in the big leagues was a bit shaky, his finish was something to behold. After posting just a 9-10 record over his first three MLB seasons for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Koufax eventually found his groove. In 1958, he went 11-11 and registered 131 strikeouts. It was the start of something magical. When his 12-year career with Dem Bums finally ended, somewhat abruptly following the '66 campaign, Sandy's numbers were impressive to say the least: 165 victories, 2,396 strikeouts, four no-hitters and four World Series titles. He was only 30 years old when he hung up his glove, but chronic arthritis in his left (pitching) arm spelled the end. His well-deserved induction into Cooperstown took place in 1972.Offered is a mid-grade example of his cherished 1955 Topps rookie card with a special bonus included: Sandy's prized signature adorns the front. His period-signed signature appears just beneath his headshot in blue ink on the lower left portion of the card, just to the left of the facsimile autograph Topps put on each of its cards from the '55 series. A signed rookie card, autographed in the era, is a sight to behold. Graded PSA EX-MT 6 with a certified PSA/DNA Auto 10.
