Description
Period-Signed 1952 Berk Ross Jackie Robinson PSA VG-EX 4, PSA/DNA Auto 8 - Pop One, None Higher - From The Golden Age Collection. Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson was an inspirational player who possessed the athletic prowess as well as the mental fortitude that was necessary to propel him to great heights on the baseball diamond. Originally a Negro League player with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1945, Robinson was selected by Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey to make MLB history. It was on April 15, 1947, when Jackie broke the league's longstanding color barrier and inked his name in baseball. By starting at first base that day for the Dodgers, Robinson quite literally changed the face of the game, opening the doors of opportunity for other players of color to follow their own dreams of one day playing in the Major Leagues. Though he suffered great adversity and derogatory comments aimed at him by those against allowing African-Americans to share the playing field, Robinson persevered. His 10-year career with the Dodgers culminated with Jackie's well-deserved induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.From the relatively obscure 1952 Berk Ross set comes this mid-grade example of Robinson's card, which shows him leaping high to snare a fly ball. The card exhibits deep colors, good centering and a flawless reverse. But what propels this rarity into another dimension of collectability is the gorgeous signature that's scrawled across the top. Robinson signed this '52 specimen during that era and inked his autograph in powerful blue ink. Graded PSA VG-EX 4 with a certified PSA/DNA Auto 8. According to the PSA Pop Report, this is the only autographed card graded VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT with none rated higher.
