    Description

1959 Topps Mickey Mantle #10 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher. In 1958, Mickey Mantle was the biggest star in the game. Perhaps it was the fact that after eight seasons of bliss that included five World Series Champion ships plus two more American League pennants that helped launch Mantle's Hall of Fame career, one of those seasons even saw a Triple Crown resting on Mantle golden locks. Despite the Mick's admitted lack of self-discipline that many historians believe kept him from rewriting the record books in every major slugging statistic, nobody hated to lose more than Mantle. He clearly entered each season anxious to reclaim his team's proper position atop the baseball world. Offered is one of the finest example of his entry in the 1959 Topps series. Card #10 was an early reward for young baseball fans who now had months to worship their hero praying for continuing October glory.

Graded PSA Mint 9. Only twenty-five have earned the PSA Mint rating out of over 6,600 submissions. Only one Gem Mint example is confirmed. We can assume many 1958 Mantle cards were traded and fondled into disrepair in schoolyards across the nation, the offered example is clearly a glorious exception to the rule. Not a corner is touched, nor an edge scuffed, nor a surface scratched. Even those factors separate from wear are unimprovable, as color and registration are all beyond reproach. Perfect 10's are offered only when graders can find no honest alternative, marginally less than perfect centering kept their fingers off the "gem" button.
