1959 Topps Bob Gibson #514 SGC 96 Mint 9 - A "Mint+" Stunner! Bob Gibson was one of the last of his breed, a tough, durable pitcher who used intimidation to dominate hitters through most of the 1960's. He was 156-81 from 1963 to 1970, including 1968 when we went 22-9 (13 shutouts) with a 1.12 ERA. The pitching mound was lowered in 1969 in large part due to Gibson's dominance. Among his accomplishments; 8-time NL All-Star, NL MVP in 1968, 2-time NL Cy Young Award Winner, 1964 and 1967 World Series MVP awards and 9-time NL Gold Glove Winner. His rookie card is a treasured addition to any collection.

The offered high-numbered rookie card has each and every attribute one would expect from such a high-grade exemplar. That should come as no surprise as it is graded "Mint" by the traditionally conservative SGC service. It's all here: flawless centering, the cleanest white borders, four sharp corners and brilliant surfaces all characterize this pack-fresh, uncirculated card. As impressed as we are by the SGC judgment we can only guess what could it possibly take to get a higher rating. Even the most critical hobbyist would be more than pleased to add this card to their collection. Graded SGC 96 Mint 9. Of the over 550 Gibson rookie cards submitted to SGC, this is one of seven rated 96 Mint 9 with none graded higher. If this card did not grade any higher we can't imagine another being noticeably nicer to deserve the honor.
