1958 Hires Root Beer Test Set Willie Mays (No Tab) PSA Authentic. In 1958, prior to releasing their 66-card, full-color promotion of baseball cards which were placed in packs of soda, Hires Root Beer produced this basic looking and far, far more scarce Test issue with the key to the series being Willie Mays. Of this incredibly rare sixteen card set, most have lost the bottom coupon that originally came attached to the card portion. "The Say Hey Kid" is in classic form with his trademark smile bright as ever, despite it being a black and white photo over an orange background. The card has been trimmed and with hand-cut rounded corners. Mays is one of those players who is ranked by many in the top ten of all-time.
