1957 Topps Sandy Koufax #302 SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop Three, None Higher. The mighty Brooklyn Dodgers were in line to finally lay claim to a long-awaited World Championship as they added a young flame-thrower named Koufax in 1955. The youthful and deceptively innocent-looking pitcher, Sandy Koufax -- seen here in his third Topps appearance -- stood ready to join such heroes as Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella and Gil Hodges, and the team's fortunes would change forever. So, too, did the collecting hobby, as the collectibility of the coveted '57 Koufax has never relinquished its status as one of the most visually captivating gum cards ever made.Graded SGC 96 Mint 9. From a total population approaching 500 submissions, only three have earned the coveted 96 Mint 9 assessment. None have rated higher. This paragon example displays pinpoint corners, an intact, shimmering layer of surface gloss, and stunning, "pack fresh" attributes throughout. Few observers ever expected that this smiling phenom would someday, all within an abruptly concluded ten-year career, become a pitching powerhouse and the sport's first three-time Cy Young Award winner, or that he would figure in three victorious World Series match ups.
