Description

Only five superior!

1956 Topps Mickey Mantle #135 PSA Mint 9. Mickey Mantle's 1956 season stands as one of the greatest in baseball history. At just 24 years old, the blue-eyed Okie captured the American League Triple Crown, leading the league with a .353 batting average, 52 home runs, and 130 RBIs. His dominance earned him the AL MVP in a unanimous vote, as he powered the Yankees back to the top of the baseball world.

Mantle's explosive start included multiple multi-homer games and a stretch in May where he hit .414 with 16 home runs. His impact extended into October, where he played a key role in the Yankees' World Series win over the Brooklyn Dodgers. In Game 5, Don Larsen's perfect game was preserved in part by Mantle's miraculous catch of Gil Hodges' drive to deep left-center, followed by a solo home run that provided critical insurance. From start to finish, Mantle's 1956 season was a masterpiece of power, speed, and clutch performance.

The presented commemorative derives from that season for the ages, but it celebrates its seventieth birthday with the same youthful vigor that the Mick showcased at the pinnacle of his prime. Every hallmark of an elite vintage card--color, registration, centering, corners, surfaces--is supplied here at its finest. More than ten thousand examples of this card have passed through the hands of the hobby's leading card grading service, and just five have soared higher than this glorious PSA Mint 9 beauty.
