Description
Only three superior!
1955 Topps Sandy Koufax Rookie #123 PSA Mint 9. Only Warren Spahn retired more batters on strikes with his left arm than this man, a remarkable statistic when considering the brevity of Koufax' Hall of Fame career. But what his service to Major League Baseball lacked in duration, it more than made up for with achievement. When elbow arthritis drove the Dodgers legend from the sport at the tender age of thirty, he had already earned four World Championship rings, three Cy Young Awards, two World Series MVP Awards and the adoration of millions of Jewish baseball fans worldwide who had not been supplied an athletic standard-bearer of such quality since the retirement of Hank Greenberg. The presented trading card likewise finds itself just a hair's breadth from the pinnacle of the official ranking, bested only three times in over six thousand submissions to PSA. To provide some degree of context, we report that the population of Gem Mint 10 examples of Mickey Mantle's 1952 Topps card is identical.
At this elite level, the card offers little cause for us to delve into specifics of its physicality, as the color, registration, centering and state of condition are all essentially flawless. Like the aforementioned Mantle rookie, this key card from one of the decade's most celebrated issues has been a commodity on the rise, as any study of historical hobby pricing will confirm.
