1955 Topps Sandy Koufax #123 PSA NM-MT 8. The first World Championship in franchise history, and the end of a painful Fall Classic losing streak to the hated Yankees, was only part of the Dodgers story in 1955, though the enormous importance of the debut this lot heralded would only become apparent several years later. Sandy Koufax had thrilled scouts with his blazing speed as a representative of the University of Cincinnati ballclub, but his first few seasons in the Majors showed little indication of the extraordinary age of dominance to come.

Arguably no athlete in American history has exited his sport on a higher note, Koufax claiming three National League Cy Young Awards, two World Championship rings and one MVP Award in his final four seasons of professional action. Though his Big League tenure was limited by typical Hall of Fame standards, sportswriters voted for his induction in a landslide first-ballot election, granting official baseball immortality to the superstar southpaw in 1972.

The 1955 Topps issue has long been a hobby favorite for its status as the first "landscape" format in the history of the company, and for its two essential rookies. Graded PSA NM-MT 8, this card ranks among the top 5% finest of the now over 6,100 PSA submissions. With blazing yellows and bold green, this fine specimen instantly transports us to the borough of Brooklyn's happiest days, the card showing mere hints of the six decades since production.
