    Description

1955 Topps Roberto Clemente Rookie #164 PSA NM-MT 8. The folks at Topps turned the baseball world on its ear for 1955, abandoning the portrait format that dominated the hobby since its inception for a landscape design that provided exciting new options for company artists. Yet this pioneering distinction tends to be an afterthought for collectors today, whose primary association with the Eisenhower-era issue is the rookie debut of two of the most beloved Cooperstown residents, Roberto Clemente and Sandy Koufax. Card #164 is the hobby's favorite memento of the Puerto Rican-born Pittsburgh Pirate. With its photo-quality portrait, a glimpse of the outfielder's batting stance, and an artful background of dark green fading to light it has become a fitting tribute.

The offered example presents beautifully. As expected, the card's corners, surfaces, gloss and printing exhibit a superior standard. Graded PSA NM-MT 8.
