1955 Topps Harmon Killebrew #124 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher. Offered is the rookie card of Harmon Killebrew, known as "Killer," a great name for what he did to baseballs, and totally inapplicable to him off the field, where he was a soft-spoken, affable man. When Killebrew was signed with a $4,000 bonus in 1954, it made him what is called a "bonus baby," a term given to players who, according to the rules then, were forced to spend two full years on the Major League team's 25-man roster or risk being taken by another team. So, third baseman Harmon was on the Washington Senators at 17-years-old. He played very sparingly for his two years, and was up-and-down from the big club to the minors for three more years. His breakout year was in 1959 when he hit 42 home runs to tie for the AL lead. The HOF slugger led the AL in homers 6-times. The Senators became the Minneapolis Twins in 1961, and Harmon kept homering, winding up with 573. Over his career, he played at first, third, and left field, but he wasn't in the line-up for defense, He was a slugger who hit them far. As former Baltimore Orioles manager Paul Richards said, "The home runs he hit against us would be homers in any park, including Yellowstone."

The 1955 Topps issue was only 206 cards because Topps was still battling Bowman for baseball card supremacy, and Bowman had many players under exclusive contracts. Topps used a horizontal design and again used its recent practice of having two images on the front, portrait and action. Limited numbers of cards are in high grade. Graded PSA Mint 9. One of twenty-three graded MINT with one rated higher from a total pop now approaching 5,500 submissions.
