1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips Mickey Mantle SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop Three, None Higher! The Mick's entry in the 1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips series remains a showpiece within any 1950's regional collection regardless of the current state of preservation. Card collecting Mantle fans outside the north-east found the summer of 1954 a frustrating time. Mantle made no appearance on a nationally circulated card outside of Bowman wax packs. That is why the few regional issues from that summer, like the Dan-Dee Potato Chip issue, are so celebrated almost seven decades later. Revered for their status and elegant, understated design, these regional issues are treasured by modern hobbyists for their noticeable scarcity and high percentage of stars and Hall of Famers. Complete sets are rarely found let alone made available for sale today. Mickey Mantle is by far the most recognized name in the hobby. His all-american smile and boyish charm are captured in this timeless portrait. With Dan-Dee cards, the close proximity to greasy snack chips made necessary a protective layer of wax which did protect the card but is also the main reason Dan-Dee cards are graded conservatively and their visual presence lessened. That is obviously not a problem with this SGC 96 Mint 9 stunner.

Worthy of a lengthy list of superlatives. Simply put, this card has it all, from four sharp corners, fresh um-marred wax, vibrant colors and a problem free reverse (a rare occurrence on a Dan-Dee card). All of this on an obscure and condition delicate issue. Offered is the key card in the set, provided with stunning "pack fresh" aesthetics, centered marvelously within four frosty, problem free borders and four razor sharp corners. To date, SGC has graded seventy-three total examples. Assuming there were no resubmissions, this card is one of three to earn a 96 Mint 9 assessment. A stellar copy with few equals.
