    Description

1954 Bowman Ted Williams #66 SGC 92 NM/MT+ 8.5. Certain cards are so much more than just another card we add to our collections. Some cards are linchpins of the hobby, so famous they can stand alone affording bragging rights to the proud owner. Card #66 from the 1954 Bowman series featuring Ted Williams is one of those cards. It's story began in 1954 when the card was pulled from the set, more than likely due to contractual issues, resulting in what is now one of the most sought-after postwar treasures. The Williams card was replaced by Jim Piersall with a very limited number seeing public circulation. The myth began thanks to veteran hobbyist Larry Fritsch who opened a 5-cent pack in 1954 and inside were five cards of "The Splendid Splinter" himself. A hobby classic was born. Graded SGC 92 NM/MT+ 8.5. This card displays an off-centered portrait and is otherwise a beautiful example with four sharp corners, clean surfaces and brilliant coloring. This is one of six graded NM/MT+ with one lone example rated higher.
