1953 Topps Mickey Mantle #82 PSA Mint 9. Mantle's debut season of 1951 was punctuated both by hints of his preternatural slugging power and by batting slumps that led the Yanks to demote their top prospect to forty games in the minors. The 1952 season saw Mantle validate the enormous expectations that had been placed upon him, leaving no doubt that he was the rightful heir to the center field grass willed to him by a retiring Joe DiMaggio.

So the Commerce Comet was flying high when this important slab of cardboard was hatched from its wax, engaged in a season that would once again find him front and center in both the Midsummer and Fall Classics. While Mantle earned membership in the first series of the 1953 Topps set, his population here is not as far removed from that of the previous year's troubled final series as one might expect.

Extremely tough to locate this card in high grade. This absolutely stunning example is free of chipping especially on the very condition sensitive red border. The centering and corners on this card are virtually flawless. The colors and registration just captivate the person looking at it. One can just sit and stare at this card for hours on end in appreciation of the overall stellar condition of this card.

Only ten examples of this early Mantle card have achieved a Mint 9 rating, with only two superior. For the 1952 rookie, there are six 9's and three 10's. So simple logic tells us that the value of this elite specimen has plenty of room to grow. We expect the investment-minded collector to be keeping close watch. This will be the first example to come up for auction in the past ten years! A true work of art, sure to be a center-piece in any collection.

Guide Value or Estimate: $300,000 - up.
