Description

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 SGC VG 3. When graded baseball cards were introduced, the hobby witnessed an explosion not seen since the asteroid that took out the dinosaurs. Large cities with one, maybe two stores selling just cards/comics grew to having a dozen or more. A local card show could now be found on a weekly basis throughout the year. Spending large sums of money became commonplace. New collectors had to navigate through the hobby much like navigating through the financial world and the smart one searched for some totally needed advice. Some of the best advice one could heed is, "Buy the card, not the holder." If there ever was an example proving this belief it is this card.

Their calculated destruction, paired with the standard Eisenhower-era themes of bicycle spokes and spring-cleaning mothers, has left the balance between a quality supply and demand for the Mick's '52 entry heavily tipped toward the latter. Today survivors are enjoying a continued surge of interest. It is nothing short of amazing what was created on a kitchen table by Sy Berger and Woody Gelman.

Graded SGC VG 3. A solid mid-grade example. Corners do have some wear, but the Mick's portrait has deep colors and is about as perfectly centered as one could hope for. There is a linear surface dimple across one finger and an extremely faint tone in the lower left. No creases. The definition of superior visual appeal. Cards with precise centering and strong visual appeal have become more desirable as the demand for this card continues.
