1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 SGC 45 VG+ 3.5. Every hobbyist had a spark that set the inspirational fire that got them to start collecting hundreds if not thousands of trading cards with portraits of their favorite baseball heroes. For many, seeing this card opened the door to hobby enlightenment. It reigns supreme as the single most desirable card of the post-war era. Of course we are talking about card #311 from the 1952 Topps baseball series featuring Mickey Mantle. One assumes it is the tremendous relevance of Mantle's talents both on the field and in the batter's box that drives its value, it's also interesting to note that for the world at large its value lies in the iconic status as a representative for not just the hobby but for that generation when life seemed so much more innocent and care free. We present this very nice example of this historical card which has been graded SGC 45 VG+ 3.5. His portrait has no print flaws or surface wear. We would be remiss if we didn't mention it is centered - almost perfectly! Corners can best be described as having an acceptable bluntness. The border has very mild toning in areas and there is a triangle shaped area missing from the top layer at the bottom right corner. The final SGC assessment may seem conservative to some. A really attractive card and one that could still continue to grow in value for the foreseeable future.
