Description

1951 Topps ML All-Stars Larry Doby SGC VG-EX+ 4.5 - Pop One, Three Higher. Following in the footsteps of Brooklyn Dodgers great Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby was the second black player in history to break MLB's color barrier. In 1947, about three months after Robinson accomplished the feat in the National League, Doby broke the color barrier in the American League with the Cleveland Indians. A seven-time MLB All-Star, Doby finished his 14-year career in the Major Leagues with a .283 batting average, 253 home runs and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. Offered is an unusual 1951 Topps Major League All-Star card featuring the pioneer player. Certainly one of his rarest cards in existence, SGC has reviewed only 23 copies of this scarce, unnumbered offering. This mid-grade example shows good centering and bright, vivid colors but exhibits noticeable corner wear. Graded SGC VG-EX+ 4.5. This is the only example found in the SGC Pop Report graded VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT+ with three rated higher.
