Description

1951 Bowman Willie Mays Rookie #305 SGC VG+ 3.5. When Willie Mays made his debut for the New York Giants in 1951 as an upstart 20-year-old, he made a very good first impression. A five-tool superstar, Mays, playing in 121 games that first season, batted .274, clubbed 20 home runs and drove in 68 runs. For his outstanding efforts, the future Hall of Famer was named the National League's Rookie of the Year.

Presented is Willie's coveted 1951 Bowman rookie card. While the reverse side covers his auspicious start in the minors and quick call-up to the majors, the horizontally designed '51 card captures a colorized image of Willie offering a fierce batter's pose. This example of card #305 from the historic '51 Bowman set is found in Very Good+ condition with good color and a clean reverse, but shows a bit off-center with some slight corner wear. Graded SGC VG+ 3.5.
