Description
1951 Bowman Willie Mays Rookie #305 SGC VG+ 3.5. Willie Mays broke the mold for center fielders when he debuted for the New York Giants in 1951. A five-tool superstar, Mays, playing in only 121 games that season, batted .274 with 20 home runs and 68 runs batted in. For his outstanding efforts, he was named the NL Rookie of the Year.Offered is Willie's sought-after 1951 Bowman rookie card. While the reverse recounts his auspicious start in the minors and rather quick call-up to the majors, the horizontally designed card front captures a colorized image of Mays striking a batter's pose. This example of card #305 from the historic '51 Bowman series is found in Very Good condition with great color, but exhibits surface wear, rounded corners and some border wear. Graded SGC VG+ 3.5. Of the 788 examples found in the SGC Pop Report, this is one of 23 cards graded VERY GOOD+.
