Description

1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle Rookie #253 SGC Good 2. Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle was a prodigious longball hitter who launched 536 home runs during his decorated 18-year career with the New York Yankees. While sporting pinstripes, "The Mick" helped the Yanks win seven World Series titles and 12 American League pennants. In his rookie campaign of 1951, as the team's would-be successor to the aging Joe DiMaggio in center field, Mickey played in right field and showed fans and the Yankees top brass of the greatness that was to come.

Presented is Mantle's coveted 1951 Bowman rookie card. Though it doesn't seem to generate the same kinds of headlines as Mickey's very first Topps card (1952, #311), the '51 Bowman issue (#253) is his officially recognized rookie card and therefore is always at the top of wish lists for any serious-minded baseball collectors. The horizontally designed card utilizes an impressive photo enhanced by painted color of Mantle exhibiting his batting stance during Spring Training exercises in Phoenix, Arizona. This example of #253 is found in Good condition with nice color and a pretty clean reverse. Graded SGC Good 2.
