Description

1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle #253 SGC 86 NM+ 7.5. Graded NM+ 7.5 by SGC. Debate as much as one can that the 1952 Topps card is Mickey's true rookie - our calendar tells us that the '51 Bowman was actually Mick's first. The only real debate would be regarding any claim that the Topps card is a prettier card, as Bowman's designs of the early 1950's represent the finest in cardboard aesthetics. The classic image of the nineteen-year old legend in the making, who stands at batting attention before a cloud-dappled sky, conveys a visual appeal tough to disregard. Leading off the high number run which is infected with centering problems as well as gum and wax stains, which are greatly lacking in this healthy, nicely centered collectible with only a few light reverse wax stains to note. Spared the brunt of such ailments, it takes quality a step further by sporting four quality corners with just small hints of wear at the tips. Of the just over 200 such cards graded by SGC at the time of this writing, the population report tells us that only 12 cards exist in which to upgrade from. A vibrant NM+ example of one of the most popular entry's in the hobby.
