Description

Population twelve, only one superior!

1950 Bowman Jackie Robinson #22 PSA Mint 9. We've always been intrigued by the 1950 Bowman issue's decision to forgo player identification text on card obverse, but in this case the man truly needed no introduction. As the biographic text on verso trumpets, Robinson had redefined himself the previous season from brave racial pioneer to National League MVP, further stifling any antiquated notions that he didn't belong in the Majors.

These early 1950's Bowmans are tough to find in high grade, and not just because they are approaching octogenarian status. Wax and gum stains plague those issues, but you'll find no sign of them here, nor the likewise common faults of imperfect registration and centering. In well over 1,700 submissions to date, only a single example has found a higher perch upon the PSA grading ladder. Graded PSA Mint 9.

Guide Value or Estimate: $200,000 - up.
