    Description

1949 John Sain Boston Braves Jimmy Fund Die Cut Counter Display. Offered is a scarce retail counter display featuring Johnny Sain of the Boston Braves. The approx. 8-3/4 x 10-3/4" die-cut piece comes with the original stand-up easel that was never used. "Thank You! - in behalf of 'Jimmy" and facsimile autograph of Sain thanks those who contributed to the Jimmy Fund, an organization started in 1948 by the Variety Club of New England. A radio broadcast aired from the bedside of Einar Gustafson, the first "Jimmy" when he was visited in the hospital by the Boston Braves baseball team. "The Jimmy Fund" to this day raises money for cancer research. Uncirculated with one very faint wrinkle in the upper right corner of the rectangle base as noticeable only upon very close inspection.
