1949 Bowman Larry Doby (Rookie) #233 PSA NM-MT 8. Larry Doby must be one of the most underappreciated players in baseball history. He is a Hall of Famer. His career began like many other African-Americans of the era in the Negro Leaguer, and was a first... the first African-American to play in the American League. He was in his second full season of service with the Cleveland Indians when this card was issued inside the high-number packs of Bowman Gum cards in 1949.
