Description

1949 Bowman Duke Snider #226 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher. An undisputed key to collecting cards featuring the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers is the rookie card of legendary outfielder Duke Snider. The "Duke of Flatbush" is such an endearing and memorable name in baseball history he became the subject of song. Forever will he be immortalized as one of "The Boys of Summer" cementing his association with greatness thanks to the 1981 song "Talkin' Baseball" with the unforgettable lyric "Willie, Mickey and The Duke."

To the chagrin of hobbyists who concentrate on "Brooklyn Bums" players in their collections, Snider's debut piece emerged in the '49 Bowman issue's scarcer series of "High Numbers." The card faces the additional obstacle of the time's soft and unforgiving cardstock, as well as notorious difficulties with respect to print quality. Here, though, is in fact one of the best Snider rookies in a PSA holder. One highlight, or should we say "four" are the exceptional corners that all come to well-defined 90-degree angles. The card also features apparently never-touched surfaces and factory-fresh edges resulting in a generally fault-free "pack fresh" aesthetic. Graded PSA Mint 9. Among a total submissions pop approaching 700, this is one of a lucky thirteen graded Mint and just one has been graded higher.
