Description

Population seven, none superior!

1948 Leaf Ted Williams #76 PSA Mint 9. The 1948 Leaf set presents more like Russian propaganda posters than your typical baseball card of the era, and the set remains famous to this day for the simple, yet bold and thoroughly modern design. It come as no surprise that it has made it to the top of the "All-Time Favorite" chart among collectors. And when you consider that fewer than 30,000 cards of this issue have passed through PSA's grading service, whereas the first issue of Topps just four years later has seen almost ten times that amount slabbed, it becomes clear just how much more elusive, particularly in high grade, this beautiful set is.

Ted Williams entered the Majors intent upon a future in which baseball fans would point at him and whisper, "There goes the greatest hitter that ever lived." Twenty-one years later, he would retire with that wish fulfilled. It's a fact that makes the presented cardboard commemorative one of the more essential trading cards in the hobby, deriving from the most cherished issues of the Bubble Gum Era.

Williams would claim his fourth of six career batting titles the season this card was hatched from its wax pack, and more than seven decades after its emergence it remains virtually untouched by the hands of time. Only a half-dozen others have risen to the elite Mint 9 level of the offered specimen, with none ever soaring higher.
