1948 Leaf Satchel Paige SP #8 SGC 50 VG/EX 4. This is one of the most sought after baseball HoFer rookie cards of the post-war era and one one of the hardest to acquire. This famously scarce relic was originally purchased for just a penny which would prove to be an investment on par with buying IBM or Apple stock when first offered. At the time, Satchel Paige had 20 years of baseball experience under his belt, a victim of racial prejudice. At the tender age of forty-two Leroy Paige became the elder statesmen of all rookies in baseball history. Considering that he did not make a Bowman card until the second of Leaf's two seasons of issue, one could rightfully consider this Paige's only "true" rookie. Certainly the toughest debut card of the era and what a representative it is.Graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4. From a total population of fifty-two, this is one of seven in VG/EX by SGC with sixteen grading higher. While other Leaf short-prints have lower total populations, none come close to desirability. A solid excellent example rated for the front surface that didn't make it through the printing press as smoothly as planned. Anyone aware just how tough this short-print is knows that if you have the chance to add this card to your collection you should take advantage.
