1948 Leaf Honus Wagner #70 SGC 96 Mint 9. The '48 Leaf series is a landmark issue famous on many levels. The 101-card set helped usher in the modern era of the hobby. It's also important to stress the significance of the issue itself in the evolution of the hobby, the first post-war breed to feature color imagery. Half of the subjects are notorious short-prints that among the most difficult entries of the modern era with legends Paige and Feller on the scarcity roster. Then there are the rookies. Warren Spahn, Jackie Robinson, Stan Musial, George Kell and Larry Doby making early debuts. Joe DiMaggio starts the set off marking the swan song of his career and card #3 featuring Babe Ruth coming his final year. And then there is card #70 featuring the legendary Honus Wagner.

The unmistakable bad and huge wad of chew in his hand is the most ironic portrait in the hobby considering his historical stance against tobacco. Offered is one of the finest examples on record, graded SGC 96 Mint 9 by the generally conservative eyes at SGC. A seemingly uncirculated card with vivid hues, perfect centering and exceptional corners. And not stain, tobacco or otherwise to be fund. What a great card to display next to your T206 Wagner... or any reprint thereof. One of three in 96 Mint 9 with none rated higher.
