Description

Only five superior!

1948 Leaf Babe Ruth #3 PSA NM-MT 8. It's one of the most recognizable images in card collecting, classic and yet years ahead of its time, looking more like an Andy Warhol painting than a typical trading card. Printed the year of the Babe's death, and bearing his jersey number "3," the card is absolutely mesmerizing, offering a portrait of Ruth with an expression as inscrutable as Mona Lisa's. Artistic references aside, it's noteworthy that Leaf runs couldn't compare to Topps or Bowman in size, and just about every Leaf Ruth still out there has been sent through PSA.

That population is almost 1,600, but just five of those have found a perch above the offered example, each member of that quintet assigned a grade of PSA Mint 9, with not a single Gem Mint 10 in the census. The bold colors of the offered specimen are just as bright as they were upon production, and the centering of the card is considerably better than most of this issue. Surfaces are clean and corners are virginal. A fitting farewell to the most important figure in the game. Graded PSA NM-MT 8.
